Switching from Manual Booking Confirmation to the Viator API

What are some of the benefits of connecting to the API?
Connecting your reservation system to your Viator account through an API will remove much of the manual work required to manage your Viator bookings and will help automate your availability, allotment, and blockouts. Read more on the benefits here.
Will I still receive booking notification emails if I connect to the API?
No. Once you have connected to the API all bookings originating from Viator, Tripadvisor, and our partner sites will automatically feed into your reservation system for easy reference. Please note, if you do receive a booking notification email after connecting to the API this may mean there is a technical issue with the API connection. Read here to troubleshoot your API connection.
What is the Booking Confirmation Method for products connected to the Viator API?
When you initially create your Viator products you are able to set your Booking Confirmation Method to one of three options: Instant Confirmation, Manual Confirmation, or Instant then becomes Manual (read more on the difference in booking confirmation methods here). Once you have connected your products to the API, our system will override the selected booking confirmation method to use the availability directly from your reservation system. If a date is available, the booking will automatically feed into your reservation system and be confirmed to the traveler. This functions like a product with Instant Confirmation as their booking confirmation method. The booking confirmation method you selected during initial setup will then be used as a backup booking confirmation method should the API ever fail or disconnect. Should your product become disconnected from the API, our system will send notification emails to ensure you are made aware of new booking requests.
How can I confirm or change the backup Booking Confirmation Method for my product?
To see which backup booking confirmation method you currently have set up for your product, please navigate to the Booking Details tab and click Edit within the Booking Process section. Click here for a step by step guide to locate or update this information.
I had my products set up as Manual Confirmation before connecting to the API, will I still be able to manually approve or reject new bookings?
No. As the API helps automate availability and blockouts, we will only display dates or times you already have available within your reservation system. This removes the need to manually accept or reject new bookings so all new bookings will be instantly confirmed. However, should the API disconnect for any reason and your backup Booking Confirmation Method is set up as Manual Confirmation, then you will receive a booking notification email asking you to manually approve or reject the new booking.
I received a booking notification email even though my product is connected to the API, will the new booking appear within my reservation system?
No. If you receive a booking notification email while your product is connected to the API, this may mean there is a technical issue with the API connection. Read here to troubleshoot your API connection. Only bookings completed while connected to the API will appear within your reservation system. Any bookings made while disconnected from the API or when the API connection fails will not automatically appear within your reservation system and will need to be manually added.
